I have read so much about Crazy Celebrity fad diets that I decided I should try one to see if they really would work.

I picked the Cabbage soup diet only because it went for 7 days and would not be so disruptive in my normal routine. It has also been recommended by medical institutions as a pre-surgery diet so I guess it couldn’t be that bad.

Most diets are not suitable for long-term weight loss but are good for losing weight fast.

The Cabbage Soup Diet is a low-fat & low- calorie, high-fiber diet that should help drop weight fast.

It could be used before you embark on a long-term eating plan.

The CABBAGE SOUP DIET

Day One:
Fruit: Eat all of the fruit you want (except bananas).
Eat only your soup and the fruit for the first day.
For drinks unsweetened teas and water (I added in black coffee).

Day Two:
Eat Vegetables stay away from dry beans, peas and corn.
Eat all the vegetables you want along with your soup.
At dinner eat a baked potato with butter.
Do not eat fruit today.

Day Three:
Mix Days One and Two:
Eat all the soup, fruits and vegetables you want. No Baked Potato.

Day Four:
8 Bananas and drink as much Skim Milk as you would like along with your soup.

Day Five:
Beef And Tomatoes: Ten to twenty ounces of beef and up to six fresh tomatoes.
Drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water this day to wash the uric acid from your body.
Eat your soup at least once this day.

Day Six:
Eat as much Beef and Vegetables as you want and ( that’s right) more soup!

Day Seven:
Eat as much Brown rice, unsweetened fruit juices and vegetables and … soup.

My video review of the Pros and Cons of the Cabbage Soup Diet

Pros:

  • lose weight fast.
  • Eat as much as you want.
  • 7 days only.

Cons:

  • I  found the soup bland not matter how many spices I used.
  • My weight nearly returned when eating normally again.
  • It is not nutritionally balanced.
  • It puts you off eating.

So overall it wasn’t pleasant to be on the diet.

I feel better eating a normal healthy balanced nutritional plan with occasional fasting and some cheat meals thrown in.

Not that I think I lost any muscle mass in that short of time but I did start to feel softer and bloated for losing weight is not a current goal of mine.

I hope this demystifies one of the more popular Crazy Celebrity diets on the market and helps you make a decision whether to avoid diets or follow them.

Well that ends the 3 parts series of Crazy Celebrity Diets that don’t work, that do work and the one I had to try.

Thanks for reading this article.

I secretly have a thing for soup…mostly vegtable soup though to be honest lol. I'm not really up for the weight loss though. I've been attempting to gain weight by eating a lot of steaks and meat then going to the gym and converting it.

I mean I think I've done the right thing and I'm seeing results but it may have been incredibly unhealthy. Help me health yoda. Have I done the right thing?

Hey Aundre, If its working then its the right thing. If you want to add weight then meat has it all proteins, minerals & boosts testosterone so go for it. Just make sure they are lean meats not too fatty I find chicken breasts the best but if you notice too much body fat building up just go back a notch. But when you want to add size eating becomes a full time job.

    Raymond,
Great post. I have an aunt that tried the 'Cabbage Soup' diet and experienced similar results to you, with limited long term success. Your advice at the end is timeless. Keep low sugar levels, avoid the processed foods, and have cheat meals!

  • Raymond,
Thanks for being the guinea pig on this one because I wouldn't of tried it myself! I'll stick to fasting and eating decent in between fasts. Great way to find out what works though! You are looking leaner than ever in that video, good job!

    • Raymond Ho says:

Heyy Kelly, yeah I guess I write about it enough so thought I'd better try something!
I think you are spot on fasting and eating well is the secret that most people don't use maybe cause its too simple? But keep on writing about on your fitness blog and people will eventually get it.
      Thanks
      Raymond

    Raymond,

There's no way I would have been able to do this, even for just seven days. I like to incorporate plenty of meat and protein into my diet every day. Props for actually trying this out though! I bet you're glad to be back to normal eating!

    Alykhan

    • Raymond Ho says:

For sure Alykhan, I really didn't like it first couple of days was OK but by the 7th I was turned off. Well looks like your nutrition of meats /proteins works very well for you.

Wicked, I'm proud of you my Zen brotha for trying it. I look forward to the next review. this is the best way to learn about the diets, trying them out.

    Nice Video!

    • Raymond Ho says:

hi Alejandro, Thanks for the support …it started off as being fun but turned out " do I have to eat this again" I think I wont be eating cabbage again for awhile?
At least I didn't do the baby food diet (spew)!
Thanks for taking the time to visit

  • Josh says:

Raymond, did you have any issues as a result of the limited protein consumption? Seems pretty catabolic to me, especially the first few days.

    • Raymond Ho says:

HI Josh, Funny you say that even though on 1 day of the diet I could eat as much meat as I wanted. It did fell that way. I make a point that I felt softer and maybe my imagination but I felt smaller too!
So I would say if you want to lose some weight its fine but be prepared to sacrifice some hardened muscles along the way.
If I was way over weight I would use it again, but not if I wanted maintenance or drop a little fat..I'd prefer to fast or carb cycle something along those lines
      Thanks for your comments

  • Wow Raymond, I can't believe you went through with this. Thanks for trying it out…even though it wasn't the mythical "magic weight loss pill" that everyone seems to be looking for. How does someone decide to put together a diet like this anyway? Are they just thinking, hmm how about fruit one day, veggies the next, and then a mix the following day, but no baked potatoes? Regardless, hope you come across a celebrity diet that actually works. Until then, intermittent fasting all the way.

    • Raymond Ho says:

Hey Dave, yeah I thought i'd better put my money where my mouth is and try it out. Wasn't that bad but wasn't that good either.
I wonder the same thing how does anyone come up with these combination and formula ideas doesn't make sense!
I agree go for intermittent fasting if you really want to lose weight the smart way
Thanks for coming over and reading

  • Anna says:

Raymond, I tried something similar called the Sacred Heart Diet. I didn't even last 2 days…haha. I detailed my experience on the blog but I basically came up with similar conclusions as you did. This just goes to show that long-term lifestyle changes are the way to go.

    Anna

    • Raymond Ho says:

Oh Really Anna you tried the Sacred Diet? I'll have to come over and have a read in detail.
But yeah the lifestyle is the only way to go.
      Thanks for visiting

  • Bryan says:

Interesting…You can actually eat as much as you want of certain items…I think that this would be a positive thing for some because the popular idea of diet is to eat less of what you want and to go hungry.

    • Raymond Ho says:

Hi Bryan, yeah in parts you can eat as much as you want doesn't sound bad but all that cabbage soup turns you off a bit … and there is no protein until the meat day .. so 7 days is really all you want to do any more and you go crazy
      Thanks for your comments
