Crazy Celebrity Diets can work for weight loss over a longer term than just for a few days, celebrities like Brad Pitt and Jennifer Anniston look fantastic so their diets can’t be that bad?

In Hollywood its good to be different, so diets that make sense are usually based on sound nutritional practices but specially wrapped to sell to celebrities and then onto us, their adoring fans.

As I mentioned in my last article “diets that don’t work” the sole purpose is for rapid weight loss, the better diets are ones you can use and become healthy.

The Zone Diet(Enter the Twilight 40:30:30 Zone)

A popular diet followed by Jennifer Anniston, Brad Pitt and Rene Zellweger was created by a scientist so not surprisingly that’s why its so formula based.

You eat meals in the ratio of Carbs 40%, Proteins 30%, Fats 30% which controls hormones and the body’s insulin to stay within a healthy region to help lose fat.

It is a strict diet but its nutrient ratio doesn’t seem too bad, the diet essentially reduces the carb intake level and ups the proteins.

Its not too extreme but I would think the protein ratio is possibly too high.

If the body gets too much protein it then uses water to help digest it.  So the effect is that you lose weight quickly but its usually water weight and dehydration is a possibility so if you do try the diet drink lots of water.

It makes use of the familiar method of controlling blood glucose and energy levels.

It does ignore portion size and calorie intake but overall its a diet that will help lose weight at a steady rate.

Five Factor Diet - (Hi Five this diet)

Hollywood celebrity trainer Harley Pasternak came up with this diet.

Eat five meals a day, five ingredients per meal including protein, fats, carbs and sugar free drink.

You exercise 25 minutes minimum five times per week. and a cheat day or eat what ever you like is OK.

Jessica Simpson, Alica Keyes and Eva Mendez thought it was good enough to follow.

The draw backs are the restrictive rules, everything is obsessively five, you only eat foods that take five minutes to prepare!

What happens if you don’t want to eat 5 times in a day?

However besides all that, it actually sounds like a solid eating and exercise plan, its not magical just clever marketing spin of traditional nutritional advice.

So drop the rules follow the basic out line and this diet could go from from good to great.

Meal Replacements - (Why replace real food)

Created to replace normal meals the calories intake is measured and controlled for you, just the way Kim Kardashian apparently likes it.

This diet actually does work, its used by the medical profession as a preparation before surgery for obese people.

It’s designed is to be nutritionally balanced but living off shakes and food bars (fibre?) should not be done too long usually no longer than 12 weeks.

Not having enough fibre would cause bowel problems and maybe the attitude to real food can be an issue in terms of the psychological effects.

If you can handle the one dimensional food of shakes and bars you will lose some weight but it would be very unsatisfying to sit down to a plate of food powder … but just add water!

Raw Food Diet - (As long as its not moving)

Its philosophy is that cooking food destroys the enzymes that assist with digestion. So the idea is that 75%  of your diet should be uncooked food.

The food variety is obviously very natural like fruits, vegetables, seeds, legumes, dried fruits, nuts and seaweed and mineral water.

Demi Moore is fan of the theory about raw eating and she has kept pretty well for an older female.

But the missing food groups are meats, fish and dairy so there would be deficiency in nutrients add these back in and you will have a very healthy diet but really eating raw food is unnecessary.

Remember to lose weight keep your calorie intake lower than you need.

Over all these diets aren’t too bad, you can lose weight with these and use them longer than a few days.

However you can do better with smarter nutritional strategy like intermittent fasting or following a natural unprocessed food consumption like the paleo diet.

This article and the last article “diets that don’t work“  I’ll choose a crazy celebrity diet to follow.

Hopefully you will come back to visit and find out the result.

  • Raymond,
I agree that some components of these diets are pretty good. I'll be curious to see what kind of results you get with a crazy celebrity diet.

  • Raymond Ho says:

Thanks Dave … I am doing the cabbage soup diet .. sounds a bit yuk but better than the Baby food diet
    thanks for visiting

  • Darrin says:

Good overview. I think the hypey trendy stuff is really what gets people's attention (and sells magazines) when it comes to celebrity diets. It's helpful to realize that the ones who are always healthy are using "evergreen" tactics.

    • Raymond Ho says:

News sells so having a diet that works but sounds boring is never going to be a hit regardless if it gets you into the shape you want.
      Thanks for visiting Darrin

  • Alykhan says:

    Raymond,

It's amazing how so many new diets are coming out all the time. I've heard of The Zone before, but I still don't think I'd ever follow any of these. Let us know how the cabbage soup works out for you!

  • Raymond Ho says:

Thanks Alykhan for your comments, yeah a lot of diets our there and probably just spin offs on ones that work no wonder people get confused but "gotta make money"
Finished the diet will post the results soon.

  • This is a good post on diet, there are many ways a diet can be followed, as long as you have one that you can stick to! Thats all about it really! lol…theres no special cure to a diet, only something that makes you eat less, but you enjoy at the same time, which is a golden rule!

    • Raymond Ho says:

Hi Hazman, yes there is no cure only sensible strategies to make you eat less if thats a goal.
We all love food just we need to keep the easy access to food under control
      Thanks for visiting

  • Anna says:

Raymond, just reading those diets already make me go crazy…haha. However, I do like the idea of a shake sometimes but I make my own using vegan protein, green leafy vegetables, vegan fiber powder, and a serving of healthy fat. It tastes great and keeps me full for hours.

Also, some leafy vegetables like spinach and kale can be harmful to some people with thyroid problems. In that case, eating them raw would be a bad idea. I usually cook kale or spinach before I blend them with my shakes just in case :) The only raw diet I would eat would be at a Japanese restaurant…haha.

    Great post!

    Anna

    • Raymond Ho says:

Wow you put a lot of effort into shakes ..you are one healthy chic!
LOL yeah I can understand why the paparazzi love crazy celebs and
I forgot about Sushi which I love that is one raw diet I could do haha yeah

Thanks for taking the time to visit and comment

  • FitXcel says:

After reading all of your reviews of these diets, I've concluded that I'm far too lazy to do any of those diets. I'll take my steak, pork, eggs and steamed veggies and call it a day. Oh, and donuts.

    • Raymond Ho says:

Well THE DREW DIET is probably the best one on this post.
How can you argue with a whole natural foods like steak, eggs, and veg. nutrition.
And Yes the donut fits in perfectly when you move into a bit of carb cycle or cheat meals.
      Thanks for the excellent advice,
      Raymond

  • Let us know how the cabbage diet works for you. I worked with an enormously overweight guy that did the cabbage diet years ago. It was a nightmare for everyone around him and the entire place smelled like a barn animal! I think I will stick to intermittent fasting. To me it's the best way to control your weight and still be able to eat whatever you want in between.

  • Jordan says:

    Hey Raymond,
Some of these diets do sound wild, but can produce results that most quick fixers are after. I actually had success on the Zone many years ago, but it was too rigid long term for me.
